Pulut with Gulai Taucu

This morning, I made this for breakfast. A rather nostalgic breakfast fare, actually. Pulut (glutinuous rice) with gulai taucu ikan bilis dengan cili hijau (taucu with anchovies and green chillie soup). When I was young, my arwah bapak would have this as his main breakfast staple. On our way to school, we would usually stopped by a small warung in Sungai Lesong (somewhere in Tapah/Kampar area) for him to have his daily dose of pulut with gulai taucu. He wouldn't let me joined in as he figured I was too young to be having a pulut so early in the morning. No wonder he suffered from hypertension.
Nowadays, when we balik kampung to my sister's place in Kuala Dipang, husband and I would frequent this one gerai near her place for breakfast. Reason being, the gerai sells pulut with gulai taucu. Sedap.

  1. Gulai taucu is one of my favourite dishes. Typical Perakian, huh? ;)But, I have to say that I have never tried eating it with pulut. Will definitely try it the next time I masak gulai taucu.

Another dish I like is sambal chili padi taucu. Boleh tumpang lalu to share the recipe yaaa?

Tumis halia (1 inch), bawang putih (3 ulas) and bawang merah (10 biji) - all blended, and serai dititik til' naik bau.

Add bawang merah (4), bawang putih (2 ulas) and halia (2 inch)- all dihiris. Stir for 1 minute.

Add taucu (semi-hancur) and kacau til' naik minyak, add 1-2 genggam udang kering, and a bit of water. Kacau for about 3-4 minutes.

Then add 2-3 genggam cili padi (whole - do not blend or cut), and stir.

Add air asam jawa (1 1/2 cup), gula and bawang besar (1-2 biji) dipotong baji.

Masak atas api perlahan for about 15 minutes or until pekat. Tutup api.

Makan with nasi panas. Guarantee - mak mertua lalu pun tak nampak...

    Selamat mencuba :D

  3. Shana,
Orang tua-tua kata , kalau nak sedap masak taucu, kena guna air panas aje. Infact asam jawa pun kena bancuh dengan air panas. Cubalah, nanti tengok ada tak kelainan.

  7. Cath,
Sungai Lesong tu berjiran dengan Temoh tapi facing jalan menuju ke Teluk Intan. Cath mungkin tak berapa familiar kut sebab the nearest town is Kampar. Bebudak kat sana jarang sekolah kat Tapah.

Gulai taucu memang sedap dan senang di masak. Dulu kalau nak belajar masak, kena belajar masak taucu dulu.Tapi nanti kalau kahwin jangan masak taucu hari-hari tau!Hik,hik......peringatan jer untuk masa depan.

  23. GOD... pinggan bunga kaler hitam and gulai taucu mmg buat saya terkenang sg lesong. Kalau tak silap kawasan tu lebih dikenali ngan simpang empat sg lesong. Dah lama tak kesana. Actually my atuk and opah tinggal kat sana. my atuk just pass away recently. So sad, tak berkesempatan jumpa dia. Rindu oo ngan kawasan lomboong kat situ.....
